Book a Homecheck

Before you book a home check, please make sure you have completed the following checklist:

1. Is your hutch a minimum 6?x 2?x 2?(for rabbits) or 4?x 2?x 18’’ (or equivalent for guinea pigs)?
2. Does your hutch have bolts fitted to secure each opening door?
3. Is your hutch in a sheltered place which provides shade in the summer?
4. Does the hutch have protection from the rain/cold such as a tarpaulin?
5. Have you purchased good quality hay and straw? (Please note wood shavings and sawdust are unsuitable)
6. Have you purchased food and have suitable dry storage?
7. Have you purchased a suitable hutch cleaner? (Please note Jeyes fluid is unsuitable)
8. Do you have a run? (minimum size of 6?x 3?x 2?for rabbits or 4?x 3?x 18’’ for guinea pigs). ANIMALS MUST NEVER BE ALLOWED TO RUN FREE, THEY ARE NOT FREE THEY ARE FOX FOOD
9. Is the run made with weld mesh or good quality wire and does it have a lid that can be secured? (Please note that chicken wire is unacceptable)
10. Do you know that your rabbit has to be vaccinated against myxomatosis every six months and VHD annually?
11. Have you found a suitable vet who is experienced in treating rabbits and guinea pigs?
12. Are you able to organise adequate care for your animals while you are on holiday?
For those who are having indoor bunnies/guinea pigs please check the following:
1. Is your indoor cage a minimum of 140cm x 71.5cm x 48cm (for rabbits) or 100cm x 51cm (for guinea pigs)?
2. Have you made sure all electrical wires are covered, any doors blocked with a safety gate and the area is secure from dangers (e.g. household plants/cleaners)?
